Last days of Heat
At the end of the gravel road after 78 km of gravel road we only had to do 130 km of pavement from Lake Chapala to San Felipe, they had 13 km more paved road this year than last. Any way you look at it, it was a better way to go to Yuma than thru Tecate(which would have taken an extra day of with about 360 km of travel, no to mention the cost of extra gas).
The morning sunrise at Pete's Camp, just north of San Felipe, was a great way to start our last day in Mexico.
We crossed the border at Calexico, the easiest crossing yet...we didn't even have to go into secondary! After crossing the Mexican border we were off to Pilots Knob to meet Mom and Dad, and my sister Karen and here husband Matt. Can you believe it, the first day we spent with them we made a trip across the border into Mexico to Algdonies? We had one last shrimp taco for the road., who know when we will be back. Early on the second morning we took a hike up the hill at Pilots Knob for a great view of the USA/Mexican border. From Pilots Knob mom and dad, and Ken and I headed to Quartzsite(Karen and Matt left for home in Calgary after spending all of 2 months south this winter), here we spent time doing a few scenic drives and soaking up the last of the hot weather before we head to Canada. We have plans to be back across the border by the 11th of April, time enough to plan and start booking our trip to Europe this spring.
